FAQ
How Do i know i am in safe hands?
I am a certified mat Pilates instructor through Polestar Pilates NZ and am also a member of Pilates Aotearoa, the NZ association for accredited Pilates professionals, and REPS, the Register of NZ Exercise Professionals. I actively engage in continuing professional development to ensure my teaching practice remains current and dynamic.
do i Need Previous Pilates experience?
You don't need any previous experience! I teach all levels, from beginner through to advanced, so you can start or continue your Pilates journey at the most appropriate level for you.
What's the difference between pilates and yoga?
The biggest difference between Pilates and yoga is one of static versus dynamic exercise - in yoga, you typically adopt a position and then hold it or flow into a different position, while Pilates involves adopting a position and then adding movements of the arms, legs, spine or a combination of all or some of these. Both are low impact exercise disciplines that can benefit almost everyone, so which you choose will usually come down to simple personal preference - or you may enjoy practising both!
Where are classes held?
All classes are held in our intimate studio in central Blenheim.
What should I wear?
The most important thing is for you to be able to move easily and comfortably - consider a t-shirt and leggings, shorts or tracksuit pants. You can wear socks or go barefoot if you prefer but please remove your shoes at the entrance.
Do i need to bring any equipment?
You don't need to own or bring any equipment. Mats and all small equipment used in classes are provided at the studio. Some students have their own mats and/or foam rollers, and you are most welcome to bring and use your own if you prefer.
We also sanitise all mats and equipment used at the end of each class, so you can be reassured that all the equipment you use is clean.
What if I have an injury?
You will receive an enrolment form when you book for the term, which provides space for you to alert me to any existing injuries, health conditions or movement restrictions that you experience. If you develop a new injury or health condition during the term, please let me know. Some injuries will need you to rest for a while before coming back to Pilates, but in many cases, I will be able to adapt or swap out your exercises to help you keep moving safely and enjoyably!
What if i'm away or sick on the day of my class?
If you are unable to come to your usual class, please notify me as soon as possible. I can almost always fit you into an alternative or catch-up class.
If you are sick or feel like you're coming down with something, please stay home and get well before coming to class. Likewise, if you need to isolate with COVID-19 or another respiratory illness, please do not attend class until you are symptom-free.
