about Pilates+
Hi! I'm Kirsty Chalmers, a Pilates teacher based in the heart of sunny Marlborough, New Zealand.
I'm internationally qualified in teaching mat Pilates through Polestar Pilates and have been offering small group and private classes at studios in Blenheim since 2012.
My own Pilates journey started when I began learning Pilates in Auckland back in the early 2000s, after hearing that it might help to resolve persistent niggles from a previous shoulder injury. It worked! And I was hooked... Fast forward several years and a move to the South Island and I decided that the time had come to jump in and qualify as a teacher, so that I could share my love and the benefits of Pilates with others.

Pilates has done so much for me and I truly love sharing it! My passion is for teaching mindful movement - a considered practice that will help you to enhance your overall physical and mental wellbeing. I accomplish this by guiding you through safe, effective and fun exercises to help you move with more ease and comfort, not just in the studio but also in your everyday life.
Nothing makes me happier than when my students share with me the benefits that they're experiencing from their Pilates practice - whether it's freedom from back pain and stiffness, increased joint strength, better breathing patterns, feeling more relaxed or just a really great sleep after their class!
As your teacher, I'm also committed to continue learning and developing in my own Pilates practice. I am particularly influenced by Franklin Method, an evidence-based technique that uses mental imagery to help you embody physical movement, and you will occasionally find me incorporating some of the techniques I have learned from this method into my classes. I also endeavour to stay abreast of new findings in movement science and developments in Pilates methodology so that I can continue to offer you fresh movement insights and techniques to help your body to move at its best.
